Greg Slattery was born on the faithful spring night of April 5th in the year of 1986. Causing his mother little pain as a child, he soon made up for it. Living in the ‘burbs of Chicago, this hellion walked the streets at a young age, learning to rough it, making ends meet however possible. His parents, afraid of what their child might become, took him from the streets of Chicago and brought him to bright and sunny Simpsonville, South Carolina, where the roads are poorly paved and women are beaten. Greg quickly adjusted, making friends within days of arriving with current best friend and drummer, Michael Spawn.
Unsure how to take the new culture, he learned the southern ways and how to use them to his advantage. He advanced quickly through school, reading during much of his free time. He and Michael soon became interested in writing and illustrating everything from short stories to funny strips. Little did they know that a decade later they would be spreading the joys of rock n roll to people across the globe, but, we must not get ahead of ourselves.
Then there was middle school. This was awkward times for the young Greg Slattery. His mother had abandoned his desire to be dressed by her in the morning, and was left to fend for himself. It took him three years to learn any real sense of style, and even then it wasn't that great. During his 8th year of schooling he discovered skateboarding and the punk rock. Skating and listening to the likes of Operation Ivy, Ramones, and MXPX became his liberation. You didn't have to match or spend lots of dough on material possessions (other than skateboards) if you were a skateboarder, cause skateboarders are above impressing other people.
Entering High School, Greg formed his first band, Blaze of Glory, with best friends Michael Spawn and Brett Kent. Lowering the standards of punk rock, they eagerly played clubhouse after clubhouse, giving music to a small town that had nothing, and kids an avenue to release their pent-up frustration. They faced rejection, threats, and the law, but never turned it down and never stopped, well that is, until 2 years later when they band dissolved. Greg Slattery went his separate way from Michael and Brett, joining other bands and trying solo material.
Realizing his musical talent was only compatible with the heartbeat of Michael Spawn’s drumming, he soon joined forces with his compadre in the summer of ’05. It was not much later that Andy Auvil and Josh Bumgarner filled out the lineup.
Greg Slattery currently attends the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, enjoys little Debbie Christmas tree brownies, Cadbury eggs, and the country of Canada. He thinks Bush was the wrong man for office, hopes the myths of Christopher Walken running in the year 2008 are true, and enjoys the company of women. He attends an Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, works for Apple Computers as a campus representative, and is a DJ at the college radio station WUSC (90.5 on the dial if you’re passing through or in Columbia, SC).
